Ronnie Price is one of six new players to join the Thunder this season. Through just a few practices, he’s already seen enough of Russell Westbrook to make a bold proclamation.
On Tuesday, Price was asked about what he’s picked up on defending Westbrook in practice, and the 11-year NBA veteran said Westbrook is the best player he’s played with.
Price has been on teams with Damian Lillard, Deron Williams, Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant, but picked Westbrook as the best.
“Russ is hands down the best player I’ve ever played with,” Price told the media after Thunder practice on Tuesday.
It’s important to note that Price took into account when he played with Nash and Bryant. Price played with a 37-year-old Nash in Phoenix. He played with a 36-year-old Bryant in his lone season with the Lakers (2014-15). Bryant played in just 35 games that season.
Meanwhile, Price arrives in Oklahoma City with Westbrook in the midst of his prime. Westbrook is coming off an 18 triple-double, All-NBA First Team season.
Here’s the complete quote from Price for context:
Ronnie Price on if there are things he picks up on defending Russell Westbrook
“Absolutely. Russ is hands down the best player I’ve ever played with. I played with Kobe – Kobe was at the end of his career. Steve Nash was towards the end of his career. Russ is a superstar. So being able to compete against him in practice, of course it helps me. It energizes me to prepare for practice, and if I can stay in front of Russ 30 percent of the time, then I’m doing OK. He helps me and I hope that he understands that me competing against him in practice, I’m just trying to help him as well.”
